Ogun CP establishes a police post around the varsity community in response to the students’ assault

The establishment of a police post around the Ibogun Campus of Olabisi Onabanjo University has been announced by the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni. The purpose of this post is to enhance swift response, improve police visibility, and strengthen community policing initiatives.

The announcement was issued in response to a midnight assault and robbery that occurred at student hostels on Saturday.

The hostels were allegedly besieged by 12 suspected robbers, who allegedly carted away phones, laptops, and other valuables after shooting sporadically, according to the DAILY POST.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, DCP Bolanle Muritala, and the Area Commander, Ifo, ACP Seyi Williams, visited the university campus on Monday to evaluate the current security situation and consult with critical stakeholders regarding strategies to enhance the safety of the institution and its neighbouring communities.

The CP engaged in a strategic consultation with the Vice Chancellor, Professor Ayodeji Agboola; the Provost of the College of Engineering and Environmental Sciences, Professor Bashir Odufuwa; His Royal Highness, Oba Timothy Sowumi, the Olu of Ibogun-Sowumi; and principal officers of the institution and community leaders upon their arrival.

Ojajuni reassured all stakeholders that the command had conducted a thorough evaluation of the security situation and would promptly enhance policing in the vicinity of the university and the surrounding communities.

He emphasised the importance of sustained engagement with stakeholders, proactive surveillance strategies, and increased patrols as components of efforts to guarantee a secure and safe environment.

Additionally, he collaborated with sister security agencies, such as the NSCDC, Amotekun Corps, and So-Safe Corps, to enhance their security coverage of the region.

In the interim, he reiterated the command’s dedication to the maintenance of peace and security in Ogun State by fostering interagency synergy, community policing, and ongoing engagement with all stakeholders.
