Breaking: Police capture six people after foiling a plan to attack government buildings in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has prevented certain suspected criminals from using improvised explosive devices (IEDs) to attack government installations in Akure and other parts of the state.

After identifying the precise location of the attacks, the suspects are said to have infiltrated the state.

During a news conference at the command’s state headquarters on Thursday, Adebowale Lawal, the state’s commissioner of police, disclosed the development and said that after getting the intelligence, operatives were sent to the designated spot.

Lawal stated that the operation resulted in the arrest of six individuals and the recovery of materials suspected of being components for the manufacturing of IEDs, and that the suspects were captured before the intended attack could be carried out.

Adekunle Prosper, 56, Ojo Olumide, 39, Tope Kolawole, 40, Ahmed Salihu, 40, Bolaji Adebowale, 46, and Gbadebo Abidemi, 43 were the suspects, according to the police chief.

He stated, “A cache of items, including 217 bottles, a bag of sugar, criminal charms, 17 cell phones, the sum of N187,000, two HP laptops, eight slings, one knife, an external hard drive, two identity cards, one National Identity Number (NIN) card, and two motorcycles, among other items, were recovered after a thorough search of the scene and an operation at the suspects’ apartment.”

According to preliminary assessments, some of these supplies may have been utilised to support coordinated criminal activity, while others were meant to be used for the building of explosive devices.

According to the investigation’s first findings, the organization aggressively assembled IEDs purportedly meant for use on government infrastructure, and there are signs that their activities may have spread outside of the state capital to other regions of the nation.
